The Dovecote Bed and Breakfast
Our Grade II listed, 18th century dovecote provides unique self-contained accommodation.  It can be booked on a B&B or self catering basis. We also have 3 very comfortable B&B rooms available in the main Georgian house.

It is the ideal place for a romantic break or a rural retreat and is the perfect place for walkers.  The only noise likely to disturb you is the birds!

Our house, built in 1799, was originally part of the Chesters Estate Manager’s House, owned by John Clayton, who dedicated his life to preserving Hadrian’s Wall.  Our garden was its kitchen garden and orchard, with The Dovecote built in it.

The stone built dovecote provides luxury accommodation over 2 floors with a beautiful bedroom for 2 people with lovely views over the garden and the open countryside. There is a double shower room and living area downstairs, with a fridge and tea and coffee making facilities.

We also have 3 rooms available for B&B in the main house:
  • 2 Superior bedrooms that can be either double (superking bed) or twin and have en-suite shower room. Both rooms have original fireplaces.
  • 1 Standard double bedroom with an en-suite shower room. This room is very quaint and cosy, with exposed beams and a sloping ceiling. It is in the oldest part of the house, dating from about 1750.

All 3 en-suites have been recently upgraded. All rooms have tea and coffee making facilities and remote controlled colour TV with DVD.

Many of our guests are walking the Hadrian’s Wall Trail.  If you stay with us you don't have to walk any extra distance!  Our lane runs from the Trail by Chesters Fort and meets it again at Walwick.  In fact it’s much nicer using our lane than walking along the main road. We can dry wet boots or clothing for you. We also have a lockable shed for bikes and fishing gear.  You can also use our freezer for any fish caught. We can also provide home-cooked evening meals on request and packed lunches.
