Haltwhistle Spring Walking Festival - 27th April to 6th May

Haltwhistle Spring Walking Festival - 27th April to 6th May

Celebrate Hadrian's Wall Country

Celebrate the amazing range of things to do in the outdoors across the whole of the World Heritage Site from South Shields to Ravenglass!  Guided walks and cycle rides, wildlife events, bird watching, nature trails  beer festivals – and of course lots of Roman themed events with re-enactors bringing the Roman frontier to life!

The celebration takes place from May to September 2013 and includes events organised by many different organisations and groups across the whole of Hadrian’s Wall Country – the ten mile corridor either side of the World Heritage Site.  Explore the list below and plan your visit to take in events that interest you – click on the map to see where the events are taking place.

The celebration kicks off on 2nd May at the Wave Centre, Maryport with a specially commissioned concert featuring folk legend Maddy Prior and friends. The show is a musical journey across the frontiers of the Roman empire travelling from the Danube to Maryport, reflecting the many peoples that lived around Hadrian’s Wall in Roman times. It is inspired by the career of Marcus Agrippa, the first commander of the fort at Maryport.
