Description

ROUTE OVERVIEW Start/Finish: Silloth RNLI car park NY 106 536 Distance: 66km (41 miles) Long distance with mild hills. Map: OS Landranger 85 (Carlisle & Solway Firth) This route is flat following the Solway coast from Silloth to Bowness-on-Solway, and the western end of Hadrian's Wall. There are wonderful sea views that pop up surprisingly from behind hedged narrow lanes and once in Bowness look out for Roman masonry in the buildings all around. Pay a visit to St. Michael's Church to rest and read about the history of this area; from Romans to Reivers and Edward I "The Hammer of the Scots". Take a day to fully explore and enjoy this amazing area.
