Description

ROUTE OVERVIEW Start/Finish: Maryport NY 033 364 Distance: 28km (17m) medium distance with easy hills Map: OS Landranger 89 (West Cumbria) This is a route for the more experienced cyclist, although not particularly long it undulates up and down serious hills, the tops of which give stunning views both of the Lake District fells and the Cumbrian coast. It explores a landscape that would have been busy in Roman times with people from forts and civil settlements at Alauna (Maryport) and Derventio (Papcastle, near Cockermouth) and those travelling north to Hadrian's Wall.
